Any guesses on what the new feature is? Hint: it’s on the roof

  • Tata Altroz CNG to be launched soon.
  • It will get a sunroof and digital driver’s display from Tiago EV.
  • Sunroof should be introduced with CNG variants first before making its way to other powertrains.
  • Altroz CNG’s dual-cylinder technology opens up boot space.
  • Powered by a 73.5PS 1.2-litre engine, paired with a 5-speed manual.
  • Prices are expected to be announced soon.

Tata Motors is preparing to launch the CNG variants of the Altroz real soon. Deliveries are slated to commence in May and bookings are already open ahead of its price announcement that is expected to happen real soon. Along with the new powertrain, the Altroz will also get one more feature which we truly love: a sunroof. It will be the second model in its segment after the i20 to get a sunroof.

This feature will be limited to the Altroz’s top-spec trim, which will be christened the XZ+ S. How did we find out? Well, Tata is already taking bookings for this trim on its online portal (with the CNG powertrain only for now) and a snippet of its marketing video on social media handles shows the presence of a sunroof. It must be noted that the Altroz CNG displayed at Auto Expo 2023 also had a sunroof.

So is this feature going to be limited to just the CNG model? Absolutely NOT. Tata Motors will introduce the sunroof in the CNG variant first and it should soon be made available with the petrol, turbo-petrol and diesel engines as well. Apart from that, the Altroz CNG also gets the digital driver’s display from the Tiago CNG.

The Altroz CNG’s USP is its twin-cylinder technology where it uses two 30-litre (water capacity) CNG tanks instead of a large 60-litre unit. This frees up boot space significantly, making the hatch more practical than its rivals. It will be powered by a 1.2-litre engine putting out 73.5PS and 103Nm, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.

The Tata Altroz CNG could command a premium of around a lakh over the petrol model, which starts from Rs 6.45 lakh (ex-showroom). It will lock horns with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno CNG and Toyota Glanza CNG.
