We were at the launch of the new Monster Yamaha MotoGP team in Jakarta, Indonesia and got a chance to check out the Yamaha MT-15 which will be launched in India next month. This baby MT is the naked version of the R15 v3.0 which is mainly sold in ASEAN countries. The motorcycle will be arriving with the same 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled motor from the R15 v 3.0, which is VVA-equipped, and develops 19.3PS and 15Nm.
While this is the Indonesian version, we would see a slightly revised motorcycle in India as it will not have the golden USDs or the cast aluminium swingarm seen here. This has been done to keep costs in check as the motorcycle is likely to be priced around Rs 1.2 lakh (ex-showroom). What will please buyers is the fact that the MT-15 will come with dual-channel ABS as standard right from the onset. When it does go on sale, the Yammie will take on the recently launched KTM 125 Duke as well as the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and the Bajaj Pulsar NS200.
