Almost a year ago, we had pitched the Ather 450 against the BS4 TVS NTorq in a 100m drag race. Last time, petrol power won out.

Now it’s time for round 2!
In our tests so far, we’ve found that the Ather 450X is the quickest electric scooter in India, by a huge margin. With a 6.0kW electric motor making 26Nm of torque, it can make the 0 to 60kmph run in less than 7 seconds. Top speed... that’s in excess of 90kmph. But is that enough for it to take on one of our most favourite petrol powered scooters, the TVS NTorq?
The BS6 version of the TVS NTorq is powered by a 124.8cc single-cylinder air-cooled petrol engine that now gets fuel injection and puts out 9.38PS of power and 10.5Nm of torque. The beauty here is that it hasn’t seen a drop in power or torque compared to the BS4 version, but it has gained 2 kg in the transition to BS6. Will it be enough to retain its crown against the new Ather 450X?
