Hero MotoCorp has given the Xtreme 160R 4V its biggest update yet, with ride-by-wire, three riding modes, cruise control and a TFT display. But can it finally take on the Bajaj Pulsar N160 and TVS Apache RTR 160 4V? We rode the 2026 Hero Xtreme 160R 4V in Jaipur to find out. In this first ride review, we take the updated Hero Xtreme 160R 4V out on the roads to find out what has changed, how it rides and whether it is finally the 160cc motorcycle to beat. The big talking points include a new ride-by-wire throttle, three riding modes (Sport, Road and Rain), cruise control and a TFT instrument console on the top variant. The motorcycle retains its 160cc, four-valve engine, but the new electronics promise a more engaging riding experience. We also examine the Xtreme's impressive ride quality, handling, sporty yet comfortable ergonomics, braking performance and updated design. Does it still deliver the everyday usability expected of a sporty commuter? There's one important issue, though: the throttle response felt inconsistent and jerky on some of the test motorcycles. Hero has acknowledged the concern and assured us that it will be addressed before customer deliveries begin. Watch our first ride review of the 2026 Hero Xtreme 160R 4V to find out whether these upgrades make it a stronger alternative to the Bajaj Pulsar N160 and TVS Apache RTR 160 4V. What do you think of cruise control and riding modes on a 160cc motorcycle? Let us know in the comments!
