The midlife update for Hyundai’s hatchback will likely be limited to cosmetic changes and addition of features only

  • Facelifted Hyundai Grand i10 Nios’ launch expected by early 2023.
  • Gets a revised front end with redesigned grille and possibly connected tail lamps.
  • Could get LED headlamps and tail lamps as well as a new instrument cluster.
  • Interior and mechanicals to remain largely unchanged.
  • Likely to command a minor premium over the current car priced from Rs 5.43 lakh.

Hyundai India seems to have begun work on giving the Grand i10 Nios hatchback a facelift. The updated hatchback has been spotted testing on the outskirts of Chennai for the first time and is expected to be launched in India in 2023. Most of the updates for the upcoming hatchback are likely to be cosmetic, with no major tinkering under the hood.

For the Grand i10 Nios’ revised front end, the Korean marque has taken a leaf out of the new Elantra’s design book, with the cascading grille now much wider and placed lower than before. The DRLs are located near the fog lamp housing, instead of the grille, and are larger in size as well. In profile, the hatch rolls on new alloys (and updated steel wheel covers in lower trims). It also seems to get connected tail lamps à la the updated Hyundai Venue

Spy shots of the car’s interior are yet to surface online, but you can expect to see minor changes to the upholstery and colours, with no major changes to the overall design. The current iteration of the Grand i10 Nios is already loaded with features and most of them, such as the eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control and a wireless phone charger, should be carried forward.

However, we do expect new additions like LED headlamps and tail lamps as well as probably, a better instrument cluster. Down the line though, the hatch could be updated with six airbags to comply with stricter safety norms.

There are no mechanical changes expected. So the hatch could carry forward its existing 83PS 1.2-litre petrol, 69PS 1.2-litre CNG, and 100PS 1-litre turbo-petrol engine options. A five-speed manual is standard, while the petrol engine gets the option of a five-speed AMT as well. The diesel engine has already been discontinued and we don’t see it coming back with the facelift.

This will be the first midlife update for the Grand i10 Nios, which went on sale in August 2019. Expect it to command a few more bucks over the current car, which is priced from Rs 5.43 lakh (ex-showroom). The facelifted hatch will renew its rivalry with the Maruti Suzuki Swift and similarly priced Renault Triber.
