Volkswagen India introduced the Volkswagen Assistance Program today. It is a door-to-door mobile car repair and maintenance service initiative. A fleet of VW cars will provide roadside assistance (RSA) and will be capable of performing small on-site repairs. The company is also offering it as a convenience option to customers for basic routine maintenance. Starting January 1, Volkswagen will provide a 4-year, 1 lakh kilometre warranty on all its model lines with 4 years of roadside assistance.

A company release stated that the assistance vehicle will provide its services in a 25km ‘catchment area’. The service will initially be available in 60 dealerships across 45 cities in India. Modified VW Polos will be part of the fleet. Each has shelves and cans in the back. The rear seats have been removed to get a flat floor. Expect the rescue vehicles to come with a spare tyre, some fluids, some spares, and a set of hand tools.

Other than emergency response, a secondary directive of the service will be mobile car servicing. The Director of Passenger Cars India, Steffen Knapp, said, “We aim to offer a holistic purchase experience with a special focus on aftersales service initiatives. Volkswagen’s Assistance is our unique program that is specifically curated for customers with a fast paced life, technologically savvy and prefer convenience at their door-step.”

Volkswagen will now offer a 4-year, 1,00,000km warranty across its model lines. The new warranty will offer roadside assistance for the entire 4-year duration. Three free services in one year or 15,000km will also be part of the deal. VW calls it ‘4Ever Care’ and will offer it from January 1 onwards.

VW cars often require special tools and techniques to repair. VW owners will be relieved to get a trained VW technician to work on their car in emergencies. We hope the VW assistance program also incentivises VW car owners to maintain their vehicles routinely since all they will need now is a call and a cheque.
