With top manufacturers focusing on e-mobility, we take a closer look at some interesting EVs likely to be showcased

The 15th edition of Auto Expo 2020 is set to witness a slew of debuts and launches over its February 7 to 12 timeline. The main theme of the expo is split into two topics. The first one being preparation for the BS6 emission norms set to kick in this April. The other is the rise of EVs in India that started with the Hyundai Kona Electric in July 2019. Since then, we’ve seen various EVs from top manufacturers. So, let’s take a look at 5 EVs that could make it to the show:

5- Mahindra eKUV100

First on the list is the long-awaited Mahindra eKUV100 hatchback. It already made its presence at Auto Expo 2018, but there was no word on its launch, until recently, when the carmaker announced a timeline of summer 2020. Further details are yet to be revealed, however, Mahindra claims the all-electric KUV100 will have a 140km range. Besides, it will have fast-charging capabilities to juice up to 80 per cent in less than an hour. Expect a price tag below Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) at launch, to make it one of the more affordable EVs in India.

4- Tata Nexon EV

Tata Motors looks like it’s set to take a step forward in the EV space with the Nexon EV, which was unveiled back in December 19, 2019. This will be the first EV from Tata to debut the Ziptron all-electric powertrain, producing 129PS of power and 245Nm of torque. The electric motor will be juiced up by an IP67-rated 30.2 kWh battery pack with a claimed range exceeding 300+km. It is likely to be priced between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 17 lakh.

MG Motors’ first EV for India, the ZS EV has already been unveiled with a launch slated for January 2020. The main talking point in the electric SUV is its 44.5kWh battery pack, delivering 143PS and 353Nm, with a range of 340km. It also has fast-charging capabilities for a 0-80 per cent charge in 50 minutes. It will be offered in two variants with prices likely to start around Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom). It will initially be sold in five cities only: Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Bengaluru. Its main rival will be the Hyundai Kona Electric.

2- Maruti Futuro-E Concept

Maruti’s lineup at Auto Expo 2020 could comprise a host of facelifts, BS6 vehicles, as well as CNG iterations of current cars. Besides that, the spotlight will be on the Futuro-E concept. This all-electric SUV concept could serve as a preview for future petrol, diesel as well as hybrid variants.

1- Mercedes-Benz Concept EQA

Topping off this list of EVs is an all-electric concept from Mercedes-Benz, the Concept EQA. It debuted at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. Its highlight is a 271PS/499Nm electric motor, which propels it from 0-100kmph in just 5 seconds! It also boasts a range exceeding 400+km and is equipped with an AWD system. It also features fast-charging with a charge worth 100km in ten minutes.
