Following a lot of drama, Sebastien Buemi emerged victorious in the 2015-16 Formula E Championship. Entering the final round of the season, just one single point separated championship leader Lucas Di Grassi and second placed Sebastien Buemi.
In the final race of the season in London, Buemi clocked a superb lap to secure pole and earn three valuable points on the drivers’ championship table. The Swiss driver however couldn’t make the most of his grid position and got off to a slow start. A fast approaching Di Grassi nudged the rear of Buemi’s Renault e.Dams on turn 3, forcing both drivers to crawl into the pits for a car change. Both the drivers now had just the two points of the Visa Fastest Lap to fight for. Di Grassi was unable to post a better lap time than Buemi, which handed over the championship win to the Swiss driver. Buemi has been a consistent performer throughout the season having secured three race wins and three other podium places.
Meanwhile, the crash between Buemi and Di Grassi allowed Nico Prost to take the lead and from there on drive an error-free race to the chequered flag. Two victories over the weekend earned Prost third place in the championship standings behind Buemi and Di Grassi. The two Mahindra Racing drivers, Bruno Senna and Nick Heidfeld secured 6th and 7th place respectively.
Ten teams have entered for the 2016/17 season of the FIA Formula E Championship. The third season of the fully electric racing championship will commence in Hong Kong on October 9.
