  • Nissan Magnite’s production-spec design looks similar to the concept.
  • It will feature a 360-degree camera, connected car tech, digital instrument cluster and cruise control.
  • Likely to feature two petrol engine options. No diesel engine on cards.
  • India launch expected in early-2021.

As we inch closer to the Nissan Magnite’s October 21 unveiling, more details are coming to light. The sub-4 metre SUV has now been spotted completely undisguised. So does its design impress?

Yes, indeed! The folks at Nissan deserve a pat on the back as the production-spec Magnite looks quite similar to the concept. The big bold grille, sleek LED headlamps, and the familiar ‘L’- shaped fog lamps are a straight lift from the concept. The profile is relatively clean and muscular with body cladding and dual-tone alloy wheels (possibly 16-inchers). Earlier spy shots have given us a clear look at the rear-end. The production-spec Magnite’s interior is also likely to be similar to the concept, with a minimalist layout. The central console will feature a large 8-inch touchscreen display and chunky air-con controls below it. All the variants are likely to come with a digital driver’s display.

But the Magnite’s USP will be its long list of features. It will get a 360-degree camera, connected car tech, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and cruise control. Safety should be covered by multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors and electronic stability control.

The Magnite won’t be offered with a diesel engine. It will come with two petrol engine options, both likely to displace 1.0 litre. The base-spec variants could utilise the Triber’s 72PS engine while the higher variants could get a turbocharged unit putting out around 100PS. Both units could be offered with a manual gearbox while the automatic variants may be limited to the turbo-petrol engine.

The launch of the Magnite is still a while away as it will reach showrooms only by early-2021. Prices could start around Rs 5.75 lakh, undercutting the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Toyota Urban Cruiser.
