The 2020 Mahindra Thar has finally been revealed after a super long wait. But the wait seems to be worth it as the Thar has evolved in every possible way one could imagine. It comes in three variants: AX, AX (O) and LX. One such area that has taken a quantum leap ahead is the Thar’s interior. Here’s a closer look at the Thar’s cabin via detailed images.

The new Thar’s cabin is IP54 rated, meaning it’s water and dust resistant. The cabin is also much more ergonomic than before with everything positioned at the right place.

The high mounted 7-inch touchscreen infotainment packs functions like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, vehicle statistics as well as off-road related data.

The Thar is offered with two transmission options: a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. All variants come with a 4x4 Drivetrain with a low range transfer case. The switches for the front power windows are placed between the front seats.

The steering wheel is a straight lift from the Mahindra TUV300 and features controls for the audio system and cruise control.

Nope, no push button start here. You still need to start the Thar the old fashioned way. We’re not complaining though.

This badge here lets you know that the Thar has been ‘Made-In-India’. Very very cool.

Also cool are these roof-mounted speakers that are water resistant so you can listen to songs even on a rainy day with the roof down.

The AX Opt and LX variants get forward facing rear seats which are much safer than side-facing seats. You can access these seats by tumbling down the front passenger seat. All four occupants get three-point seatbelts as well. Meanwhile, the base-spec AX variant continues to utilise side facing rear seats.

The new Thar is safer than its predecessor. It comes with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and even electronic stability control. The AX Opt and LX variants also pack in a roll cage.

Mahindra has stated that the footwells are washable and there are drain plugs to drain the water from the cabin. A much required feature if you take your Thar off-roading quite frequently.
