Mahindra could soon become the next major manufacturer to enter the Indian electric two-wheeler segment. In a recent interview, Pawan Goenka, MD, Mahindra and Mahindra, said the company is planning to offer the e-Ludix scooter in India. Mahindra already manufactures the e-Ludix at its Pithampur facility, which is then exported to the rest of the world.
Since the scooter is manufactured here, we expect it to be quite affordable. Unlike most electric scooters out there that come with a long list of features, the e-Ludix is a pretty basic electric scooter. The limited feature list could help Mahindra to price it below the likes of the Ather 450X, Bajaj Chetak Electric and the TVS i-Qube Electric. As of now, there’s no word on the price or either the launch date.
Goenka also said that the brand is looking at other alternatives as well. Interestingly, a few months ago, there was a report that Mahindra is working on an electric scooter based on the Gusto. The upcoming electric scooter is rumoured to have a 3kW motor and is likely to have a top speed of 55km and a range of 80km. By the looks of it, it seems like Mahindra is not planning to make a performance electric scooter or a premium one, for that matter. Instead, it could be the first mainstream manufacturer to enter the ‘affordable electric two-wheeler segment’.
