The second round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship at the Red Bull Ring circuit started off with an intense qualifying session with 21 out of 22 cars covered by only a second. Carlin’s Jehan Daruvala qualified 7th on the grid for the feature race. Teammate and fellow Red Bull junior driver Yuki Tsunoda took pole by just a couple of tenths.

In free practice, Daruvala started the weekend in better fashion in 3rd with Tsunoda topping the timesheets once again. Unlike last week’s season opener, qualifying was a much closer affair with Daruvala’s initial laps putting him 6th and within three tenths off polesitter Tsunoda. As we got towards the end of the 30-minute qualifying session and more rubber was put down everyone started setting up for their final runs.

Daruvala did improve on his run but was just a couple of tenths off Tsunoda with the time loss coming from the first and final sectors of the lap. Eventually he was pushed down to 7th just like the previous round, but the gaps were extremely close amongst them with everything to play for for the feature race.
The feature race will run over 170km (40 laps) or 60 minutes with a mandatory pitstop and at least one set of each specification of dry weather tyres. The top 8 finishers will line up in a reversed order for Sunday’s sprint race. This race will be run over 120km (28 laps) or 45 minutes.

Could Jehan have a cleaner weekend compared to last week and make up on lost ground and be in the hunt for the win with the front runners? All will be revealed when the feature race commences at 8:15pm (IST)
