Hyundai was supposed to launch the Tucson on October 24, 2016, i.e. ahead of Diwali, but now, the Korean automaker has shifted the launch date of the much-awaited SUV sometime before the end of 2017. The reason, for the delay of the launch, as of now, has not yet been revealed by the carmaker. However, we feel that the launch has been delayed since the Tucson might clash with recently launched Elantra. Bookings of the SUV had commenced earlier and will continue through several dealerships across the nation with a refundable amount of Rs 25,000.
On the outside, the Tucson features projector headlamps with LED tail lights, LED Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs), a panoramic sunroof and an electrically operated tailgate. Meanwhile, the interiors of the SUV has features such as touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto, navigation, steering-mounted controls, automatic climate control, and ventilated seats.
Under the hood, of the SUV there will be an option to choose between a petrol motor or an oil burner. The petrol mill will be borrowed from the Elantra i.e. a 2.0-litre, naturally aspirated, Atkinson cycle motor producing 152PS of power and 192Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the oil burner will be a 2.0-litre motor capable of pumping out 185PS of power and a massive torque of 400Nm. Both the engines are likely to be coupled with an option of six-speed manual or automatic gearbox.
We expect Hyundai to price the Tucson aggressively i.e. somewhere between the Rs 17 to 25 lakh mark. And when launched the SUV will lock horns with the Honda CR-V and the Skoda Yeti.
