Hyundai has silently launched the Creta in a limited edition variant called the Sports Edition. It comes with a host of cosmetic upgrades and new feature addition, including an electric sunroof. The new Sports Edition comes across as Hyundai’s latest strategy to stay relevant in the face of new rivals like the Seltos from its sister brand Kia.

The new Sports Edition will only be available in two colour options -- Phantom Black and Polar White with a Phantom Black roof.It is priced at Rs 12.78 lakh for the 1.6 petrol and Rs 14.13 lakh for the 1.6 diesel version. Also note that the new variant is only available with the 6-speed manual gearbox and is based on the SX variant.

The dual-tone variant attracts a premium of around Rs 11,000. Here are the prices:

  SX MT
SX MT Sports Edition
1.6 CRDi diesel Rs 13.59 lakh Rs 14.13 lakh
1.6 VTVT petrol Rs 12.25 lakh Rs 12.78 lakh

All prices ex-showroom, India.

The petrol and diesel versions of the Sports Edition command a premium of around Rs 53,000 over the SX MT diesel and petrol variants upon which it’s based. What you get for this additional premium are a host of cosmetic changes and feature additions:

These include black coloured ORVMs, silver finish roof rails, leather wrapped steering wheel, silver coloured AC vents, rear spoiler, new black seat fabric with Creta embossing, new front and rear skid plates, smoked projector headlamps, black and dark chrome grille and an electric sunroof. It also gets all the features from the SX variant like a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, wireless charging, and more.

The cosmetic additions have lent the Creta a more upmarket feel with the panther black shade coming off as a stealthy looking version with its blacked out grille and other bits. The Creta still uses the 1.6-litre CRDI unit good for 128PS along with 260Nm of max torque while the petrol 1.6-litre VTVT engine makes 121PS and 151Nm of torque.
