Goodbye Honda Mobilio

Honda has launched the Mobilio at a starting price of Rs 6.49 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi. The Mobilio will take on the likes of the Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova in the fast expanding MPV segment where the Datsun Go+ will also be launched in a few months time. The Mobilio will come in three variants - E, S and V for the petrol and diesel models and the diesel will exclusively get a sporty RS trim. The Mobilio RS though will be available from September only.

The Mobilio is all new yet a familiar product in the Indian market. At first glance, the Brio and Amaze front end is hard to miss and that’s because the Mobilio is an offshoot of the Brio/Amaze platform. The interiors too share the same layout till the middle row which now slides and folds in the MPV. The third row reclines as well making for a spacious and flexible cabin with seating space for seven. Space is what the Mobilio is marketed by as its USP and there’s plenty of it. On the styling front too, when viewed from the rear three quarter angle and side on, the Mobilio looks quite stylish and upmarket, one aspect MPVs have lacked in India till now.

There’s no surprise in the engine and gearbox department as well. Both engines come mated with 5-speed units from the petrol City and the diesel Amaze. The petrol engine is the familiar 1.5-litre i-VTEC 119PS mill and the diesel is the 1.5-litre 100PS i-DTEC unit that’s now the backbone for Honda in India. Both boast of class leading fuel efficiency figures – 17.3kmpl for the petrol and 24.2kmpl for the diesel (both ARAI certified). The Mobilio also comes with larger 15 inch wheels compared to the 14 inchers on the Brio and Amaze.
We drove the Mobilio recently and were impressed with its car-like driving dynamics, high speed ride, spacious cabin and design. If there are two things left to be desired, it’s the interior design and materials used and also captain seats in the second row. You can read our review here
