Once known for being the fastest man on the Indian subcontinent, Aditya Patel is currently winning accolades at the Blancpain GT Asia.
Blancpain GT Asia, which is an auto racing series for grand tourers in Asia, is a race between GT3-spec and GT4-spec cars.
At Shanghai, while both the team mates performed exceptionally well; topping the practice charts on Friday, the unexpected rain ruined their chance at a final victory. While Gilbert came third in Race 1 on Saturday, Patel came 5th in Race 2 in the pro-driver’s category.

In Race 1, Mitch, who decided to start, found himself in a messy weather coup, fell back to 5th position and then fought hard to get to a narrow lead before passing the car to Patel. A spin on cold tyres left Patel behind Audi Hong Kong’s Shaun Thong, who picked up his pace making the most of the chance. Patel finished in 2nd place, merely two seconds behind Shaun.
With Patel leading Race 2 in extremely wet weather conditions, the strategy was to stay within the reach of the top leaders before passing the car to Mitch. A wonderful pitstop performance granted a lead of 2 places in the pitstop to the number 86 car.
Gilbert then quickly worked around the third place car of Tim Harder and Earl Bamber to stand on the final podium.

Regarding his performance Aditya said, “I wouldn’t say it was a perfect weekend but considering the tricky conditions right through, it’s good to be scoring points again and closing in on the championship battle. A double podium is great, but a win would’ve been even better! I’d like to thank my sponsors Audi India and Jubilant Motorworks for their continued support and helping in flying the Indian flag high in International Motorsport.”
The rain may have slowed them down on the track but not their spirits. We will keep a look out for the duo’s performance in the future races.
