In the wake of the upcoming safety norms, the Alto 800 gets additional safety features and a new face.

  • Will be costlier by Rs 10,000 to Rs 30,000.
  • Gets added safety features including dual airbags, ABS and rear parking sensors.
  • Comes with the same dual tone dashboard as the Alto K10.
  • No changes in the mechanical department.

Maruti’s hot selling hatchback, the Alto 800, has received some important safety upgrades in its 2019 iteration. This update comes in the wake of the updated safety norms which all car manufacturers have to meet by October 2019. According to our dealer sources, the prices of the 2019 Alto will be increased by Rs 10,000 to Rs 30,000 from the current car, which retails from Rs 2.63 lakh to Rs 3.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It must also be mentioned that this might be a temporary solution, as Maruti is testing a micro SUV which looks like a replacement for the Alto.

The Alto 800 in its 2019 iteration comes with added safety features, including dual front airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors, over-speed alert system and a seatbelt reminder for the front occupants. All the above mentioned features will be available in all the variants starting from the base Std to the top end VXi(O). It must be mentioned that the Alto 800 had a driver’s side airbag as standard from the Std(O) variant onwards.

The 2019 Alto also gets a new face to make it look fresh. Gone is the split grille of the 2018 car and in comes a connected blacked out grille flanked by the same petal-shaped headlamps. At the bottom, you now get a trapezoidal honeycomb grille in place of the previous car’s horizontal slats. On the side and back, the Alto 800 remains the same as the current car.

Inside, the Alto 800 gets a brand new dashboard shared from its bigger brother, the Alto K10. The interiors of the 2019 Alto 800 is now finished in black and beige rather than the previous car’s black and grey combination. Also different on the 2019 Alto 800 is a new double DIN infotainment system with USB and AUX input.

The 2019 Alto 800 is powered by the same BSIV-compliant 796cc 3-cylinder petrol engine. The 3-pot motor produces 48PS of power and 69Nm of torque and is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox only. The Alto 800 also has a CNG variant available in the LXi and LXi(O) variants, which produces 7PS of power and 9Nm of torque less than the petrol-powered variant. We expect Maruti to upgrade the motor to BSVI norms in the near future.

The refreshed Alto 800 will continue to take on the likes of the Renault Kwid and the Datsun Redi-GO. Which one of these three cars would you pick? Let us know in the comments section below.
