  • The infotainment system also features connected-car tech.
  • The A5 facelift can be had with four engine options coupled with a 12V mild-hybrid system.

  • India launch expected in early 2021.

The Frankfurt Motor Show is on at full steam and one manufacturer who is on the boil is Audi. The Ingolstadt carmaker has revealed two facelifted models - the A5 and S5. Both models come with a whole host of updates to make them visually appealing. Apart from cosmetic updates, Audi has given them updates under the hood as well.

Exterior changes are subtle yet noticeable at first glance. Just like a typical Audi facelift, the hexagonal grille has grown in size and features vertical slats or honeycomb mesh depending on the variant. Then there are those chic new LED headlamps that come with snazzier detailing. Changes are limited to restyled alloy wheels at the side while you now get restyled LED tail lamps and bumper at the back.

Inside, the updated models comes with bare minimum changes, which is no bad thing. The MMi infotainment system is now larger at 10.1-inches and features connected-car tech and online features. These include up to date news updates, Google Earth mapping, flight, fuel pricing information, parking search function and more. There is Audi’s 12.3-inch virtual cockpit and a heads-up display that adds to the premium experience.

Under the hood, the A5 comes with four engines options with power outputs starting from 161PS. All the four-cylinder engine options come with a 12V mild-hybrid system that recovers energy during deceleration. The mild-hybrid system in the A5 shuts off the engine when the driver lifts off his foot from the throttle, improving fuel efficiency.

On the other hand, the S5 facelift now goes diesel. It is powered by a 3.0-litre TDI V6 that develops 347PS and 700Nm. A beefier 48V mild hybrid system is present that provides additional torque boost during hard acceleration. Coupled with Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive tech and an 8-speed automatic gearbox, the S5 TDI is capable of doing 0-100kmph under five seconds. It has an electronically limited top-speed of 250kmph.

Bookings for the updated A5 and S5 facelift will be open by the end of 2019 in the United Kingdom with deliveries scheduled to start by early 2020. You can have the A5 in both the Sportback or Cabriolet form while the S5 is available in the Sportback or Coupe style. Considering the fact that we have the A5 and S5 in India, we expect the updated model to launch in India sometime by early 2021.
