Skoda is set to globally unveil its first-ever sub-4-metre SUV, the Kylaq, on November 6. It is aimed at competing with popular SUVs like the Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and Mahindra XUV 3XO in the sub-4 metre SUV segment. For Skoda to establish a strong foothold in the competitive sub-compact SUV segment, the Kylaq will need to offer a compelling set of features and in this article, we are going to detail just that.
A 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system is expected to be available with the Skoda Kylaq, especially as it enters a segment filled with strong competitors offering up to 10.25-inch screens. This system should be lifted off the Skoda Slavia and Kushaq and should offer connected car tech as well as wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Given that competitors like the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO and Kia Sonet offer larger 10.25-inch displays, we anticipate the Kylaq will feature at least an 8-inch unit, once again borrowed from its bigger siblings – the Slavia and Kushaq.
A sunroof has become a highly desirable feature among Indian buyers, and the Skoda Kylaq is expected to follow suit with a single-pane sunroof. That said, this will still put it at a disadvantage against the Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV 3XO, both of which get a larger panoramic sunroof.
Another feature that the Kylaq is expected to boast is a wireless phone charger. This convenience feature is especially useful for long commutes, allowing drivers to keep their phones charged while using the phone with the infotainment system.
This is one feature in this list that we’re sure of the Kylaq to come with, owing to the recent information fetched out from the brand. Both the Kylaq’s front seats will have six-way power adjustment with ventilation, putting it at an advantage over its rivals.
We anticipate that the higher-spec models of the Kylaq will feature automatic climate control, while the entry-level variants will likely come with manual air conditioning. A dual-zone climate control, which is offered with the Mahindra XUV 3XO, is something you might have to compromise here.
As is the norm with the segment, the Skoda Kylaq is expected to come with a rear parking camera. While that’s great, it might put it at a disadvantage against most of its rivals, which now get a 360-degree camera.
Keyless entry and push-button start/stop are common in this segment, and it’s reasonable to expect the Kylaq will include this feature, at least in its mid-to-high variants.
The carmaker in their latest reveal has confirmed the Kylaq to come equipped with 6 airbags as standard across the range. That is impressive on the safety front.
We also expect the Kylaq to offer an array of electronic safety aids. These could include electronic stability control, ABS with EBD, a tyre pressure monitoring system, hill hold assist, and ISOFIX child seat mounts. While some features may be exclusive to the top variant, others could be available across the range.
Concluding with this list, we expect the Skoda Kylaq to match up to it to a good extent. We’ll see how it turns out when we have the official list in hand. Prices for the Kylaq are expected to range from Rs 8 lakh to Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom).
