This move doesn't impact bookings for the petrol-powered Rumion, and you can continue to reserve one

  • Maruti Ertiga-based Toyota Rumion made its India debut in August 2023

  • Toyota says it didn’t anticipate the high demand, leading to the long waiting periods

  • This doesn't affect the bookings for petrol variants of Rumion

  • The CNG option is available only in the base-spec S trim

  • Rumion’s 88PS 1.5-litre CNG powertrain can be had with only a 5-speed manual

The Toyota Rumion, based on the Maruti Ertiga,  made its debut in India in August 2023. And response for it has been so good that Toyota has had to halt bookings for the CNG variant due to unexpectedly high demand and long waiting times. Fret not, though, for those considering the petrol variants, as reservations aren’t affected.

Explaining the current situation, Toyota released a statement saying: "We launched the all-new Toyota Rumion in August this year and received an overwhelming response. We have seen a significant number of enquiries and bookings, especially for the CNG option, which exceeded our expectations. Due to the high demand and long waiting times for the CNG variant, we temporarily stopped taking bookings for it to avoid inconvenience to customers. However, we are still accepting bookings for the petrol versions of the Toyota Rumion."

The Toyota Rumion is offered in three broad trims – S, G and V – of which the CNG can only be equipped in the base S variant. Also on offer are features like halogen projector headlights, LED taillights, full wheel covers, manual AC, a 4-speaker audio system, and keyless entry.

Safety features include dual front airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts for the second row, electronic stability program (ESP), and hill-hold assist.

Powering the Toyota Rumion S CNG is the same 1.5-liter petrol engine as the regular versions, but it's tuned to produce 88PS/121.5Nm when running on CNG. It is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and has a claimed fuel efficiency of 26.11km/kg on CNG. In the regular petrol versions, the engine makes 103PS/137Nm and can be paired with an optional 6-speed automatic transmission as well.

The Rumion CNG is priced at Rs 11.24 lakh (ex-showroom) and its only direct rival is its cousin, the Maruti Ertiga CNG. That said, the standard petrol variants also compete with the Kia Carens.
