The Red Dark edition made its maiden appearance in the Harrier and Safari at Tata’s Expo stall

  • Tata Red Dark edition will be launched tomorrow.

  • The new edition will be available with the Harrier, Safari and Nexon.

  • It gets minor cosmetic enhancements like contrasting red inserts and some new features.

  • Will carry a premium over the current Dark edition prices of the respective SUVs.

The already gargantuan range of Tata’s special editions for its range of SUVs is about to get even bigger as the Harrier, Safari and Nexon will get a new Red Dark edition tomorrow. This is the same edition that was showcased at the Auto Expo in January and has now been confirmed for the Nexon as well. Here’s a quick lowdown of what the new edition packs:

Styling touches

With its entire exterior draped in black, the new edition embodies its moniker in the literal sense. That’s been carried over from the standard Dark edition, but, keeping true to the 'red' in its name, it features splashes of red inserts on the grille and callipers.

There’s even a badge on the fenders with a new finish and a handful of changes on the inside, including red leatherette seat upholstery with a Steel Black dashboard.

The Harrier and Safari SUVs that were on display sported a bigger 10.25-inch infotainment system and even a radar for ADAS, both of which will be made available for the standard 2023 Harrier and Safari post the launch of the Red Dark edition tomorrow. Bookings are already open.

However, the autonomous safety feature is in doubt for the Nexon. The Harrier and Safari’s suite will include features such as auto-emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot detection, rear collision warning, and high beam assist.

Powertrains

All the three SUVs should carry on with their respective powertrain options as no new powertrain or tweaks are expected with this edition. The smallest of the lot, the Nexon, is offered with both turbo-petrol and diesel options, while the bigger Harrier and Safari can only be had with a diesel engine. On the other hand, the Nexon EV could also get this treatment, given that the standard Dark edition is also available with the EV.

All the three SUVs are available with a normal Dark edition, but this new Red Dark edition will likely carry a premium over the standard editions, which start from Rs 10.8 lakh, 18.89 lakh and Rs 19.78 lakh (all prices ex-showroom) for the Nexon, Harrier and Safari, respectively. Bookings are expected to be opened alongside the launch of the three SUVs.
