Here are the details about all the new vehicles the two carmakers plan to bring to India over the next few years

Renault and Nissan recently gave us a glimpse of their plans concerning India in a presentation about the company’s global strategy. Now, the carmakers have revealed their full plans with six upcoming vehicles that will be developed at an investment of USD 600 million (Rs 5,300 crore) in India.

We also got a chance to talk to Ashwani Gupta, the Director and Chief Operating Officer of Nissan, at a roundtable conference, who told us more about the upcoming vehicles that will hit the market starting 2025.

Here’s an overview of the carmakers’ strategy in India:

Four new SUVs in the works

Nissan and Renault will launch two SUVs each, starting 2025. The first SUV from each carmaker will likely be a compact SUV in the same segment as the Hyundai Creta, MG Astor and Volkswagen Taigun. Fingers crossed, this could be the Duster revival we’ve been waiting for.

The C-segment SUVs will be underpinned by a new platform (likely a localised version of the CMF-B platform) which supports electrification as well, including strong-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

Later, two more SUVs, likely three-row versions of the compact SUVs, will be introduced, falling in the same segment as the Hyundai Alcazar and Mahindra XUV700

The two carmakers will introduce their first electric models in India sometime in 2025. These two compact EVs will be affordable alternatives to the Citroen eC3 and Tata Tiago EV. In addition, the carmaker also aims to make its manufacturing facility in Chennai carbon-neutral by 2045.

Launches due in 2024

Don’t think you’ll have to wait two years to see a new car from Nissan and Renault. The Renault Triber-based Nissan MPV is due for arrival in 2024 and the global X-Trail SUV has also been confirmed. In addition, Nissan is evaluating the Qashqai and Juke SUVs for India which, if confirmed, will be brought in as completely built-up units (CBUs).
