Update: Jeep has pushed the launch date for the Grand Cherokee to November 17.

  • Jeep Grand Cherokee is being assembled at Ranjangaon in Pune.

  • Fifth-generation SUV is an all-new vehicle that gets ADAS, a first for Jeep in India.

  • To get a four-wheel drive, 2-litre petrol-automatic powertrain.

  • Prices are expected to start at around Rs 85 lakh (ex-showroom).

With its official launch just days away (on November 11), the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is now open for bookings online and at some Jeep dealerships across the country. The all-new, fifth-generation SUV will be the carmaker’s flagship SUV in India, slotting above the Wrangler 4x4.

Its assembly has begun at the carmaker’s facility in Ranjangaon, Pune and first deliveries are set to begin by November-end. It is available to order for a token amount of Rs 1 lakh.

Jeep Grand Cherokee features

The new Grand Cherokee has a boxy but aerodynamic styling with a flat nose, large windows and wheels pushed to all four corners to maximise interior space. It’ll be available with a five-seat layout.

Jeep has revealed some of the SUV’s features and equipment, including a bevy of screens on the dashboard. The India-spec model will get a 10-inch heads-up display (HUD), 10.1-inch centre touchscreen for infotainment, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and another 10.25-inch display on the front passenger side.

Other notable features include a panoramic sunroof, perforated Capri leather seats, active noise cancellation and connected car tech with multiple remote functions.

The Grand Cherokee will be the first Jeep SUV in India to get driver-assistance tech (ADAS), and only the second model to offer the tech in its segment, after the Volvo XC90. The ADAS suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop and go, blind spot and rear cross-traffic detection, active lane-management system and forward collision prevention with pedestrian detection and intersection assistance.

Grand Cherokee off-road capability

The Grand Cherokee will surely be the ‘Jeep’ of luxury SUVs with its Quadra-Trac four-wheel-drive system and Selec-Terrain system that automatically adjusts to different types of off-road surfaces. It’ll likely be powered by a 2-litre turbo petrol engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard.

We expect the Jeep Grand Cherokee to be priced from Rs 85 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards. It’ll offer an equally luxurious, off-road capable alternative to the Volvo XC90, BMW X5 and Audi Q7.
