Bajaj Auto is gearing up to expand its electric vehicle portfolio with the launch of a new Chetak e-scooter in India, on January 14, 2025. This won’t be a next-generation version of the existing Bajaj Chetak. Instead, Bajaj is preparing a more budget-friendly offering that will sit below the current models, signalling a clear push towards the high-volume, mass-market EV space.
For one, it is expected to go head-to-head with affordable e-scooters, like the TVS Orbiter and the entry-level Vida VX2 variants. Both these e-scooters offer a perfect mix of essential features, practicality and real-world range. Bajaj is expected to offer the same with the New Chetak as well. With an expected price tag between Rs 80,000 and Rs 90,000 (ex-showroom), the focus is to be on delivering electric mobility backed by Bajaj’s brand credibility, without demanding an extra premium.
This upcoming Bajaj Chetak was recently spotted testing, and the e-scooter appears to be slightly more compact than the standard Chetak. It will likely ditch the brand’s trademark all-metal construction in favour of lighter, more cost-effective materials. This shift should help reduce overall weight, which is an important factor in improving efficiency, and providing a more usable range in an electric scooter.
Other than this, we expect a simpler feature list, pared-down hardware, and a smaller battery pack, all designed around practicality rather than excess. While Bajaj is yet to reveal the finer details, the new Chetak looks set to prioritise value, efficiency, and everyday usability.
