It seems like Jawa has its sights set on the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 with its next motorcycle, which has just been spotted testing for the first time. This modern cruiser will be a more modern take on the Jawa Perak (but with twin rear shock absorbers instead of the Perak's monoshock) and it’s likely to be launched in mid-2022.
The test mule comes with an easy-to-reach and wide handlebar, and wide split seats. The rider’s footpegs are mid-set, and the overall ergonomics seem to be properly upright. This should make it ideal for both commuting and touring. The motorcycle also gets fork gaiters, blacked-out powertrain and underpinnings (just like the Jawa Forty Two 2.1), hinting at a more modern styling than the Perak.
The motorcycle is likely to be powered by the same 334cc single-cylinder engine as the Perak, which produces 30.64PS and 32.74Nm in the latter, 3.31PS and 5.72Nm more than the standard Jawa. Paired to a 6-speed transmission, the added grunt from this engine should go well with its modern demeanour.
The motorcycle comes with a telescopic front fork and twin rear shock absorbers. The disc brakes (it’s likely to have dual-channel ABS) at both ends bring the alloy wheels with tubeless tyres to a halt. The rear fender looks rather long for a roadster, and it appears to have the same tail lamp as the standard Jawa. That said, the indicators are mounted a little lower. Expect the bike to get the same analogue instrument cluster with digital inset as the standard Jawa.
Expect Jawa to price the motorcycle at around Rs 2 lakh (ex-showroom), making it about Rs 12,600 dearer than the dual-channel ABS variant of the standard Jawa and Rs 6,000 less than the Perak.
