Mercedes-Benz has redefined luxury in India, and is also the most popular and well-known luxury automaker on our shores. The German marque has hit a key milestone in India, rolling out its 2,00,000th (2 lakh) made-in-India car! The milestone car was rolled out from Mercedes’ manufacturing plant in Chakan, Pune.
A brand that has truly captured the hearts of many Indians, from ambitious young achievers to Bollywood’s elite, the German automaker has been aspirational for a diverse range of people.

Mercedes-Benz’s make-in-India production began in 1995
The first Mercedes-Benz car to be built in India was the W124 (E-Class)
First 50,000 cars were produced in 19 years (2014), next 100,000 cars were produced in 9 years (2013), and the last 50,000 cars were manufactured in just 2 years and 3 months (2025)
The 2,00,000th 'Made in India' Mercedes-Benz car that has been rolled out at the Chakan, Pune facility is the EQS SUV!
In 2015, the S500 was the first-ever Mercedes-Maybach to be manufactured outside Germany
The EQS sedan was the first EV to be rolled out in 2022, followed by the EQS SUV 580 in 2024
Mercedes-Benz has the widest range of locally-manufactured luxury vehicles, with the portfolio consisting of 11 models
Mercedes claims that the brand has the highest investment by any luxury carmaker in India (in manufacturing) with a total investment of Rs 3,000 crores, and a fresh investment of Rs 200 crores in 2024

Mercedes-Benz has been such an iconic luxury brand in India that car enthusiasts still collect iconic Mercedes cars like the W124 and modify them, or just make sure that they work in mint condition. From entry-level models to luxury Maybachs, Mercedes has not made compromises in India and offered a diverse range of products. Mercedes also has a very wide network in India and is one of the few luxury carmakers that still offers spare parts for their older cars.

The German automaker is also a go-to choice for many who’s who, i.e. the celebrities, industrialists and even sports personalities who opt for the Maybach SUVs and sedans!
As mentioned above, Mercedes-Benz has a diverse portfolio in India. Currently, there are 27 Mercedes models available in India, including the AMG and Maybach models. The sedan range starts from the A-Class and goes all the way up to the S-Class, while the SUV range begins from the GLA and goes up to the Maybach GLS, which is the flagship model currently in India.
