  • Facelifted BMW X5 to be launched on July 14.
  • Packs a minor exterior design refresh limited to lights, wheels and bumpers.
  • Inside, it gets the carmaker’s spanking i-Drive 8 infotainment system.
  • Likely to continue with existing 3-litre petrol and diesel engine options.
  • Will command a premium over the current model priced from Rs 98.5 lakh (ex-showroom).

BMW India has confirmed that the facelifted X5 luxury SUV will be launched on our shores on July 14. This will be the first major midlife update for this generation of the luxury SUV. BMW took the wraps off the facelifted version back in February this year and hasn’t wasted much time in bringing it here. And here are the changes it will pack.

Exterior design changes are minimal, but enough to give the X5 a breath of fresh air. At the front, the headlamps are now sleeker and the bumper has been revised, making it look a tad more aggressive now. In profile, you do get new design options for the alloys while the rear-end gets tweaked LED tail lamps and bumper.

It’s on the inside where things are revolutionary as the facelifted X5 now gets the carmaker’s slick i-Drive 8 infotainment system. The floating unit consists of two screens comprising a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display and 14.9-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system. As a result, the centre console has been redesigned and features lesser buttons as most of the functions have shifted to the screens. Internationally, the BMW X5 gets a host of petrol, diesel and even plug-in hybrid powertrain options. But for India, we suspect it will continue with its existing 265PS 3-litre diesel and 340PS 3-litre six-cylinder petrol engines. Both units drive all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Considering the number of updates, we suspect BMW will command a significant premium for the facelifted X5, which starts from Rs 98.5 lakh (ex-showroom). It will renew its rivalry with the Mercedes-Benz GLE, Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90
