The facelifted BYD eMAX 7 MPV has just been launched in India as an electric alternative to the stalwart of the segment, the Toyota Innova Hycross. It might be slightly smaller than its Japanese rival and both have completely different powertrains, but the two are still very close rivals, especially in terms of pricing.
Now, we have already made a list of features that the BYD offers over the Toyota, but we flip the case for this story. So here are 7 features that the Toyota Innova Hycross boasts over its newest rival, the BYD eMAX 7:
All hybrid variants of the Toyota Innova Hycross come equipped with a 7-inch digital driver’s display, which is much bigger than the 5-inch TFT display that the BYD eMax 7 gets.
Both screens relay a bunch of drive and efficiency information but the Toyota has more real estate to play with.
While both the MPV’s get electric adjustment for the driver seat, the Innova Hycross offers more flexibility with its 8-way powered seats, compared to the BYD’s 6-way adjustment.
Moreover, the Toyota also gets a memory function that saves your desired seating position, which can be adjusted at the touch of a button. To make things even better, the driver seat of the Hycross also slides back to make space for you to enter and exit the car with ease.
Music is really important on long distance road trips to jam with the entire family, and for that purpose, Toyota offers the Hycross with a 9-speaker JBL sound system.
The BYD eMAX 7 on the other hand only gets a 6-speaker sound system.
One of the biggest USPs of the Innova Hycross is the lavish powered ottoman seats in the second row, which allow you to literally lounge with your feet up on the leg extension.
They are all electric, so opening and reclining the seat also doesn’t take any manual labour either. In comparison, the BYD eMAX 7 gets humble captain seats only.
Save for ‘the Weeknd’ fans, nobody likes ‘Blinding Lights’, especially when the source of light is a bright sun on a hot summer day.
To protect occupants from any such potential inconvenience, the Hycross gets retractable sun shades in the second row. The eMAX 7 gets no such feature.
Yes, we’re aware that the BYD eMAX 7 gets a glass roof as well, but unlike the Hycross, that is a fixed unit.
Toyota lets you open the sunroof of the Hycross to let some fresh air inside the cabin. And no, it’s not for you to pop your head out while the vehicle is in motion.
While the BYD eMAX gets auto AC and fan speed control for the second row AC vents, the temperature control is constant for the entire cabin. But the Innova Hycross goes a step ahead, offering dual zone climate control for the front and rear passengers, so that different rows can have different temperature settings.
As mentioned earlier, the Innova Hycross’ additional set of features feel more functional rather than feel-good, helping you improve the overall in-cabin comfort and experience. We will bring you a thorough specification comparison between the two MPVs very soon, so stay tuned for that story.

The Toyota Innova Hycross is priced between Rs 19.77 lakh and Rs 30.98 lakh (ex-showroom), while the BYD eMAX 7 is sold from Rs 26.90 lakh to Rs 29.90 lakh (ex-showroom). Apart from rivaling each other, they also go up against the Maruti Suzuki Invicto and can be considered as affordable alternatives to the Kia Carnival.
