With all its performance upgrades, the Artura Spider is more than just the Artura coupe with its roof chopped off

  • Mclaren Artura Spider breaks cover internationally

  • Gets minor cosmetic tweaks, mainly rearrangement of airflow ducts to accommodate the folding roof mechanism

  • Retractable hard top roof comprises carbon fibre and composite panels, operates in just 11 seconds

  • Interior now gets wireless AppleCarplay as standard, with optional wireless phone charging

  • Power bumped up by 20 PS, now produces 700 PS and 720 Nm (combined with e-motor)

  • Still uses the 3-litre twin-turbo V6 engine paired with a hybrid system, e-motor generates 95PS and and up to 225 Nm

  • Gets revised mechanicals for better dynamic ability

  • All new changes will be rolled out to the 2025 Artura Coupe as well

The Mclaren Artura, with its twin-turbocharged V6 engine and hybrid tech, was already a very desirable and potent supercar destroyer. So how do you make an ‘entry-level’ offering even better? Seems like Mclaren’s answer to that question was not to add more things, but rather remove it. Behold the Artura Spider, the first convertible hybrid Mclaren vehicle ever.

Wow

While taking the roof off a vehicle might seem like a pretty straightforward job, it is anything but that, especially when the vehicle in question is a mid-engined supercar. The retractable hard top (RHT) roof made from carbon fibre and composite panels takes just 11 seconds to fold or unfold. And you bet it took some serious work to be integrated without spoiling the original sculpture of the Artura.

While the ‘hammerhead’ nose and headlight air intakes continue to be a design signature, the rear of the car has been tweaked with a new rear buttress. The cooling vents have been repositioned as well, all for the sake of the integration of the RHT mechanism. For all its worth, we reckon the work put into retaining the shape and birthing this Artura Spider has bore a rather tasty looking fruit. Pictures aren’t giving you the vibe? Maybe this video will:

The driver-focussed cabin remains the same, save for the addition of one major feature: wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay.

Wireless phone charging is offered as an option and so is the 12-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system. It also gets a few ADAS features like blind spot monitoring and lane departure warning as standard.

Woahh

680 PS is a mighty power figure, irrespective of the car it is supposed to be propelling. But it seems like it didn’t quite have the ‘woahh’ factor that Mclaren was after for the 2025 Artura. So with a few tweaks to the 3-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine and its exhaust system, Mclaren extracted an additional 20PS, taking the power figure to a sweet 700 PS along with 720 Nm of torque (combined figures with e-motor output). The result? 0-100 kmph in 3 seconds, 0-200 kmph in 8.4 seconds and a top speed of 330 kmph.

For making the drive experience even more engaging, there are new, stiffer engine mountings, revised transmission calibration for 25 percent quicker shifts, better braking performance, and better damping control. All of this aids in its dynamic performance and helps offer higher levels of connection with the driver, as per Mclaren.

While all of these changes and improvements have been introduced with the Artura Spider, they will be made available to the 2025 Artura coupe as well. We reckon the Artura Spider could make its way to India sometime in 2025, where it’ll rival the likes of the Ferrari Roma Spider.
