  • Tata Nexon EV Max scales up Umling La pass at 19,024 feet
  • It’s the first EV to climb up the world’s highest motorable road
  • Back in 2019, the standard Nexon EV climbed up Khardung La
  • Tata gearing up to introduce Tigor EV

The Tata Nexon EV Max has scaled up the Umling La pass, at 19,024 feet, which is the world’s highest motorable road. It's the first electric vehicle to climb up this pass and this feat has helped it find a space in the ‘India Book Of Records.’ It must be mentioned that the Nexon EV Prime, during its testing and marketing phase, scaled up Khardung La, the highest motorable road back in 2019.

Electric vehicles are claimed to have better performance over higher altitudes as they don’t need to suck on oxygen unlike ICE-powered engines. The Nexon EV Max gets a 143PS electric motor that draws its power from a 40.5kWh battery pack. It has an ARAI-claimed range of 437km. Tata claims it can do 0-100kmph in under nine seconds.

Tata was also quick to add that there are more than 40,000 of its EVs on Indian roads after its personal EV space entry in 2020. And out of those 40,000 vehicles, 30,000 are the Nexon EV. Recently, the carmaker gave the standard Nexon EV a couple of new features via OTA updates and is now gearing to introduce the Tiago EV hatchback

The Tata Nexon EV range is priced between Rs 14.99 lakh and Rs 20.04 lakh (ex-showroom). It’s still more affordable than the Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS EV, but will soon face competition from the upcoming Mahindra XUV300.
