The Comet EV’s Play variant sits bang in between the lineup, which consists of three variants in total

The MG Comet EV is offered in three broad variants in India: Pace, Play and Plush. Earlier, we jotted down a detailed image gallery of how the cutesy EV looks in its entry-level Pace trim. In this report, we bring you a detailed overview of the two-door Comet EV in its mid-spec Play trim in 5 images.

On the outside, the Comet EV’s mid-spec trim looks exactly the same as the top-end model, which is a great thing. It gets the same LED headlamps and tail lamps as well as the illuminated LED strip above them. And in profile, it gets 12-inch steel wheels with plastic covers. In the base trim, the lighting is taken care of by halogen bulbs and not LEDs, both at the front and rear.

Inside, once again, this variant looks very similar to the top-end model as it gets the dual 10.25-inch screens comprising the digital driver’s display and touchscreen infotainment system. The base variant, on the other hand, gets just the digital driver’s display. Also, the mid-spec trim misses out on certain features like keyless go, tilt adjustable steering and a rear parking camera.

But as a package, this trim is still very well equipped with features like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car tech, power windows, remote locking and manual AC. And on the safety front, it gets dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and ISOFIX child seat mounts.

The Comet EV is powered by a 17.3kWh battery pack teamed with a 42PS rear-drive e-motor. This setup is good for a claimed range of 230km. No fast charging capabilities are there in the Comet and using a 3.3kW home charger, the EV takes around seven hours to juice up from zero to 100 percent.

This particular variant of the MG Comet EV will set you back Rs 9.28 lakh (ex-showroom). And the price range for the model is Rs 7.98 lakh to Rs 9.98 lakh (ex-showroom). It’s a smaller alternative to the likes of the Tata Tiago EV and Citroen eC3.
