Honda City 2020 Latest Updates

Honda has revealed the 2020 Honda City in Thailand. The fifth generation of the City will feature a new design, larger dimensions, and, in Thailand, a new 1.0-litre turbocharged engine. The VTEC turbo produces 122PS and 173Nm and comes mated to a 7-step CVT with paddle shifters. Honda claims a fuel efficiency of 23.8kmpl and compliance with Euro 5 emission norms. It is priced between THB 579,500 to 739,000 (Rs 13.74 to 17.52 lakh). We expect the newest City to come to India in mid-late 2020. It might retain the BS6-compliant 1.5-litre petrol engine.

Thanks to a leaked document, we have come to know that the existing City is set to get a BS6 update before its successor arrives. Honda has registered the BS6-compliant 1.5-litre i-VTEC variant of the current City. The BS6 version develops 119PS of power, similar to the BS4 unit. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre i-DTEC and petrol CVT variants are expected to get the updates soon.

Honda’s next-generation City has been spotted on test in India ahead of its global reveal in November. The 2020 City will be showcased at the Auto Expo. It features an evolutionary design language, and appears longer and wider compared to the current City. The upcoming model is expected to come with three powertrain options, including the petrol-electric hybrid powertrain that will debut in the upcoming Honda Jazz at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. However, it’s unclear whether Honda will offer a diesel-CVT combo as well. Prices could see an uptick, with the new City 2020 expected to cost between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom).

Q. CVT or AMT, which is better - City 2020?
  • Automated Manual Transmission is the automation of the conventional manual transmission system. There is no big change in terms of design, basic principles in AMT as compared to a manual transmission. AMT only eliminates driver’s effort for the operation of clutch and gear shifting-selection as both are done automatically. Whereas Continuous Variable Transmission, it replaces the gears with two variable-diameter pulleys, each shaped like a pair of opposing cones, with a metal belt or chain running between them. One pulley is connected to the engine and the other to the drive wheels. Also in AMT, there is a drop in driving force during the gear shifting period that results in the unpleasant driving experience. For a CVT to be more fuel-efficient than a manual, the driving must be very sedated and mostly constant speeds. For normal driving conditions, it may yield low fuel efficiency values. The CVT transmission is better because it has infinite gear ratio. Also, CVT is smoother than AMT. : By Zigwheels | 2 months ago
Q. Which type of transmission is better CVT or AMT - City 2020?
  • Automated Manual Transmission is the automation of the conventional manual transmission system. There is no big change in terms of design, basic principles in AMT as compared to a manual transmission. AMT only eliminates driver’s effort for the operation of clutch and gear shifting-selection as both are done automatically. AMT provides a limited gear ratio i.e. 4/5/6 speed similar to a manual transmission. Whereas Continuous Variable Transmission replaces the gears with two variable-diameter pulleys, each shaped like a pair of opposing cones, with a metal belt or chain running between them. In CVT engine is always operated at a favourable speed that gives best engine efficiency, whereas AMT engine is not continuously operated at a speed that gives out the best fuel efficiency.
