Expert's Opinion on Pulsar N160
Overview

- The Bajaj Pulsar N160 shares the same design language as the N250 along with the same chassis
- The bike is quite fuel efficient, tractable, and capable of hitting apexes without feeling unsettled
Design

- The Pulsar N160 has the same design as its elder sibling, the N250
- It gets split-LED DRLs and the LED projector headlight
- The bike has beefy fuel tank extensions which look quite sporty
- The only difference between the N250’s design and this is of the stickers it gets, which reduces the appeal of the bike
Performance & Mileage

- The 160cc engine is torquey and street-friendly
- The bike pulls clean after being slotted into the 5th gear at 25kmph without much effort
- Despite being a 2-valve engine, it is very refined and has minimal vibrations
- The N160 is quite frugal as well and has a claimed mileage of 48.5kmpl
- It feels at ease sitting at 85-90kmph and can sustain slightly higher speeds as well
- Above speeds of 90kmph, the engine becomes very loud and struggles to pick up pace
Handling

- The N160 handles corners beautifully
- It inspires the rider with confidence to carry more speed through the corner
- The brakes are good and allow the bike to shed speed quickly
- The lever feedback is precise and on-point
Ride Quality

- The suspension is on the stiffer side and becomes more pliant with a pillion onboard
- As it shares the same monoshock as the N250, it is set on the firmer side
- Due to its lower kerb weight than the N250, the rear feels stiff and will try to throw you off when going fast over sharp bumps
Comfort & Storage

- The seat is well-padded and provides ample amounts of support for both the rider and the pillion
- The mid-set footpegs and the handlebar allow for an upright riding posture making it quite comfortable
Features

- The Bajaj Pulsar N160 comes with an LCD instrument cluster which supports smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth
- It shows call & SMS alerts, music control and turn-by-turn navigation
- The bike gets three ABS modes: Rain, Road and Offroad, and a USB charging port as well
- The LCD screen is quite cluttered and difficult to read at a glance
Verdict

- The Bajaj Pulsar N160 is a great motorcycle which has decent features, a frugal and capable engine, and loves to hit the corners
- The only caveat is the harsh ride quality and the looks which are similar to its elder sibling
Pulsar N160 Pros and Cons
- Engine is very refined and tractable
- Sporty and confidence-inspiring handling
- Only bike with dual-channel ABS in the 160cc segment
- Rear monoshock is firm, resulting in a bouncy ride
- Not-very extensive features list
- Looks like a clone of the Pulsar N250
The Bajaj Pulsar N160 is very likeable as a whole. Its combination of a smooth, tractable and easy going motor with the brilliant handling characteristics fit is perfect for the segment. And the addition of dual-channel ABS is a big advantage.
