Volkswagen Tiguan XL

The Volkswagen Tiguan XL SUV was spotted testing at its home ground of Germany. The SUV was showcased at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo and, as Indian buyers prefer premium sports utility vehicles, it is most likely that the seven-seater will be brought to the Indian shores. The German carmaker has stretched the wheelbase of the car by 110mm, with larger overhangs at the rear which helps to increase the space for the third row of seats. Hence, the VW Tiguan gets a larger rear door and extended glass area beyond the C-pillar too.

Speaking about the engine, the Tiguan XL is most likely to be offered with a 2.0-litre diesel unit which is capable producing 189PS of power with a DSG gearbox. However, VW might also be launching the petrol variant of this SUV with a 1.4-litre engine which will be producing around 152PS of power.

The Tiguan XL is the first ever VW SUV to adopt the company's MQB platform, which underpins almost every VW, including the Skoda Octavia. This car is expected to hit Indian shores by late 2017 at a price of above Rs 25 lakh. After it is launched, the VW Tiguan XL will compete with the BMW X1, Audi Q3, and Mercedes-Benz GLA.
