2017 DGR Pune

Triumph Motorcycles India successfully held the fourth edition of Distinguished Gentleman's Ride in Pune on Sunday. Over 250 riders participated in the event with their classic motorcycles. The ride was planned from the Triumph’s dealership on Pashan Road to the Classic Rock Coffee Co. in Kalyani Nagar. The ride was led by managing director of Triumph Motorcycles India Vimal Sumbly and Amit Sadh, a Bollywood actor who has worked in movies like Sarkar 3, Kai Po Che and Sultan. All the participants were dressed in formal attire looking ‘dapper’ riding together.

The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride (DGR) is a global motorcycling event which helps raise awareness and funds for men's health, prostate cancer research and suicide prevention. All participants made donations towards the cause during registration. In the 2017 DGR, Pune was able to raise approximately $1200 and currently ranks 4th in the country. Overall, more than 2000 riders participated across the country and India stands at the 25th position in the worldwide rankings. Till date, the DGR has raised about $8million for men’s health through the charity Movember across 600 cities in 95 countries.

Motorcycles that participated in the rally included bikes from Triumph's own lineup, including a couple of Thunderbird LT and a newly launched Street Scrambler.

Other than Triumph, there were a good number of vintage bikes like the Java 350, Royal Enfield Machismo, the Yamaha RX100, and the RD350 were seen at the event. Vintage scooters like the Lambretta and Bajaj Chetak too were present. At the venue, awards were given across 12 categories like ‘The Most Dapper - Triumph’, classic bike, scooter, gentleman, lady, etc.

Speaking on the occasion, Vimal Sumbly, managing director of Triumph Motorcycles India Pvt. Ltd commented, “We, the members and dealers of Triumph Motorcycles India family, are very happy to have collaborated with the DGR for the fourth consecutive year in India. The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is a brilliant initiative which has not just successfully raised awareness and funds for prostate cancer but has also strengthened the bond amongst fellow motorcyclists from the Triumph tribe and beyond.  The entire process of following a dress code and riding in harmony with fellow bikers is quite an enthralling experience to bring attention to men’s health issues.”

This is a great initiative by Triumph, getting its customers and the riding folk together to help a cause. The only thing missing from the ride was proper riding gear, which the gentle folk had ditched in favour of looking dapper. With each edition, The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride is getting bigger with more participants and a larger amount of donation expected next year.
