Skoda had some time ago shown the 2017 Octavia with new styling, the notable feature of which was its front end with split headlamps. Now, the carmaker has revealed the 2017 Octavia RS model which gets the same style treatment as the regular model. However, the car is not only about style as it has been given a power boost too. Yes, the 2017 Skoda Octavia RS makes 9PS more power than the current model from its 2.0 TSI petrol engine. The 2017 Octavia RS will make 233PS power, making it the fastest and most powerful model in the history of the Octavia nameplate. The 2.0 TDI diesel, however, continues to make 187PS, just like the current model.
In terms of mechanical changes, the 2017 Octavia RS gets its suspension lowered by 15mm and its rear track widened by 30mm than the car currently on sale internationally. There is Dynamic Chassis Control also on offer, along with red brake calipers, performance mode select with optional performance sound generator, and electronic stability control. While the car will come with 17-inch wheels as standard, owners can also opt for 18- or 19-inch wheels for a premium.
| Parameter | Skoda Octavia RS Petrol | Skoda Octavia RS Diesel |
| Engine | 2.0-litre turbocharged TSI | 2.0-litre turbocharged TDI |
| Power (PS) | 233 | 187 |
| Torque (Nm) | 350 | 380 |
| Transmission | Six-speed manual/Six-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic | Six-speed manual/six-speed dual clutch DSG automatic |
| Acceleration (0-100 kmph) | 6.7 seconds | 7.9 seconds |
| Top Speed | 250kmph | 232 kmph |
The 2017 Octavia RS, in addition to the new style, features some cosmetic upgrades, such as diffuser element at the back and LED lighting for the registration plate. There are more changes on the inside as the car gets an all-black interior with seats in leather/fabric combination. One can also have the seats in Alcantara, which is available as an option. Standard features include ambient lighting, illuminated door handle recesses, Columbus infotainment unit with 9.2-inch touchscreen display and optional LTE module, trailer assist, blind spot detection, rear traffic alert, crew protect assist, an umbrella under the passenger seat and removable LED torch in the boot.
It is unclear if and when the 2017 Octavia RS will come to India. Despite numerous reports, the 2016 Octavia RS has not yet made an entry here. The last launch in 2016 by Skoda was of the facelifted Rapid and, going by latest reports, the next launch would be of the Octavia Black Edition in 2017. If there is any clarity regarding information on this car, it is that it will not come to India before the 2017 model year Octavia comes to our shores.
