"My mirrors were quite full of Airbus, which was interesting," says the guy who did it.

So you thought Porsches were delicate toys meant only for the rich, eh? In case you assumed the uber-expensive SUVs from Stuttgart shrieked at the thought of mud, they've already proved you wrong on that front.

But, is there more that a Porsche can do? No, I'm not talking about setting Nurburgring records or lap LeMans without blinking. That's something you expect a Porsche to do. What you certainly don't think of when you get one is "Can I tow an Airbus A380 with mine?"

Well, someone at Porsche's HQ thought exactly that. So, off went Porsche technician Richard Payne in a bog-standard Cayenne S diesel. The chap drove from London to the Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, to haul the largest passenger aircraft ever built. To put things into perspective, the Cayenne is a big SUV that measures 4.8 metres and is powered by a 385PS/850Nm diesel engine. But, that's nothing when you compare it to the A380 that is over 15 times larger and weighs 250 times as much.

The big boy from Porsche smashed the Guinness World Record in the process for the "Heaviest aircraft pull by a production car", by a margin of 115 tonnes. It's interesting to note that not even the tow bar of the Cayenne was modified for the pull. And, once the diesel was done tugging the plane, its petrol counterpart had a go as well. Payne said, "We don’t usually go this far to test the limits of our cars but I think today we got pretty close. I could tell that it was working hard but the Cayenne didn’t complain and just got on with it."

What's more, Payne drove the Cayenne back home. So, there you have it, Porsche owners. In case your private jet needs a tug, don't be afraid to break out the Pokers.
