Update 16th May 2017 - Maruti Dzire 2017 Launched! Prices start at Rs 5.45 lakh!
India's bestselling sedan is all set to break cover in a completely new avatar. The third generation of the Maruti Swift DZire will be unveiled on April 24.
The Indian automaker has also released a sketch of the sedan, giving us a glimpse into the design. A heavily masked image of the silhouette showcases the LED daytime running lamps and the LED light guides in the taillamps. One can also note that the design is a lot more flowing compared to the outgoing version and has a better-integrated boot as well.
The design is based on the upcoming Swift, and will sport features such as projector headlamps, 7-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and automatic climate control. In terms of safety, dual airbags are likely to be standard across the range and anti-lock brakes will be on offer as well.
As far as the drivetrains are concerned, Maruti Suzuki will carry forward the existing 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines. The petrol engine currently develops 84PS/115Nm and is available with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed torque converter automatic. Rumour mills suggest the 4-speed automatic could be given the boot in favour of a 5-speed AMT or a CVT. The diesel motor is likely to soldier on with 75PS/190Nm tune paired with a 5-speed manual/AMT gearbox.
Maruti will be looking at upping the premium quotient on the Swift DZire. Since the bigger Ciaz has moved on to the premium Nexa range of dealerships, the DZire becomes the sole sedan offering in the Maruti showrooms. Prices are expected to go slightly north from the current Rs 5.35 lakh - Rs 8.58 lakh range.
We will be taking a closer look at the DZire on April 24 - stay tuned to ZigWheels for more updates.
