The Facelifted Tucson Is Just Around The Corner

It debuted at Auto Expo 2020 back in February

  • It will feature a variety of exterior revisions such as mildly updated front and rear profiles, new headlamps and tail lamps, and alloy wheels.

  • The cabin receives a new dashboard with notable features like connected car technology, a panoramic sunroof, and powered front seats.

  • It retains 2.0-litre CRDI and VTVT engine options, albeit with BS6 updates.

  • It will take on the  Jeep Compass, Volkswagen T-ROC, and the Skoda Karoq post its India launch.

Back in February, when the Hyundai Tucson facelift was unveiled at Auto Expo 2020, the carmaker had hinted at a launch somewhere around March/April. The coronavirus pandemic threw a wrench into those plans, but now our sources suggest the updated SUV will be launched in India on July 14, 2020.

The new Tucson will be updated on the outside with bits like a sharper cascading grille, new LED headlamps and sharper bumpers. Other changes include new dual-tone alloy wheels and a revised set of LED tail lamps on the bumpers.

Inside, the Tucson features revisions to the dashboard with the highlight being a floating touchscreen infotainment system. It also gets Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, BlueLink connected car technology, keyless entry with push-button start, wireless phone charger, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, auto headlamps and wipers as well as powered front seats. Safety kit includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, electric parking brake with auto-hold, hill start assist, and hill descent control.

Under the hood, the Tucson facelift will continue to be powered by 2.0-litre diesel and petrol engines, albeit with a BS6 upgrade. The diesel mill produces 185PS/400Nm whereas the petrol engine delivers 152PS/200Nm. The petrol mill will be paired to a 6-speed automatic with the diesel mill getting an 8-speed automatic transmission. The top-spec diesel variant will also have an optional all-wheel-drive system.

Prices are yet to be revealed but we expect the updated Tucson to come at a premium over the current model that retails from Rs 18.76 lakh to Rs 26.97 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It will take on the  Jeep Compass, Volkswagen T-ROC, the Skoda Karoq, and the upcoming Citroen C5 Aircross and Volkswagen Tiguan
