Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Scorpio N: Why Character Still Wins

Datsun is launching the redi-GO with a more powerful 1.0-litre engine tomorrow. It shares it powertrain with the Renault Kwid SCe, but an entirely different styling gives the redi-GO a distinct flavour.
Features like a high seating position and healthy ground clearance make it a car that's easier to drive around the urban jungle. It's shorter than the low-slung Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, but the Datsun makes up for that by offering a wider and taller cabin with more boot space too.

The 1.0-litre 3-cylinder engine in the new redi-GO makes 68PS of max power and 91Nm of peak torque. More than the increase of 14PS and 19Nm in peak power and torque figures, the bigger engine impresses with off-peak performance. It's much easier to drive in the city and requires fewer downshifts to pick up the pace. It delivers a fuel efficiency of 22.5kmpl as per the new ARAI test cycle. The number is just 0.2kmpl less than the new figures for the 800cc redi-GO.
Distinguishing a redi-GO 1.0 is going to be difficult as it looks exactly the same as the 800cc sibling save for the '1.0' badge. Inside, though, it gets much nicer-looking all-black interior theme compared to the grey panels in the more affordable variants of the redi-GO.

The car is walking in the footsteps of the Kwid, and that hints at a potential redi-GO 1.0 AMT in the future. For now, though, we'll settle for the bigger motor, which competes with the Renault Kwid SCe, Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 and Eon 1.0L Kappa. If only the top two trims (T Option and S) are blessed with the bigger engine, then the pricing should start at about Rs 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
