Eyeing a sustainable and eco-friendly future for engine oils, global lubricants manufacturer, Castrol launched the first ‘Eco’ product in its Indian range, in the form of the Castrol GTX ECO, at its Mumbai headquarters on Thursday.
The product has only been introduced in the commercial capital at the moment and will cater to just diesel engines for now. Available at the same MRP as that of Castrol GTX, the ECO version was touted as the future of engine oils by the company’s officials in the United Kingdom, who addressed the media through a video conference.
Castrol GTX ECO uses an innovative base oil blend of 50 percent virgin oil and 50 percent re-refined oil. The company claims the mixture to provide the same levels of protection and quality as its GTX counterpart. It also delivers a 10 percent reduction in Carbon footprints, informed the company during the event.
The re-refining process includes dewatering, defueling, demineralisation, vacuum distillation and distillate treatment. Castrol GTX additive technology is then used to fortify the oil to create a high performance product that can even help to extend engine life.
To exhibit the difference between the raw materials and the final product of the re-refining process, Castrol had also put up small demonstration models that also indicated at how the GTX ECO looks identically similar to the GTX after re-refinement.
On the occasion, Castrol India’s brand and communications head Kedar Apte listed out the benefits of the GTX ECO for the environment. “By re-refining used oil and delivering it as a high-quality product, Castrol GTX ECO delivers CO2 reductions without compromising on engine performance or protection,” he reinstated.
