Audi A3 Cabriolet Facelift Launched

Audi India has launched the an updated version of its A3 Cabriolet in the Indian market, with prices starting from Rs 47.98 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. This is the first time the Cabriolet has received a facelift since its launch in December 2014.

The facelift was first revealed in April 2016, and now adheres to the company's new design language. Exterior design changes include redesigned all-LED headlamps with new 'jagged edge' LED DRLs, a wider, 'single frame' grille, an aggressive looking front bumper, new body contours, redesigned all-LED tail lamps and a new rear diffuser.

The cloth top is lightweight and can be operated up to speeds of 50kmph. Also, an acoustic soft top with better sound insulation is available as an optional extra. 

As far as dimensions go, the A3 Cabriolet facelift remains the same as before. Inside, changes for the facelifted version launched in India are different from those on the international version. The most glaring omission is that of the Virtual Cockpit. The refreshed A3 Cabriolet launched in India does not get Audi’s all-digital display for the dash, even though the car gets the display in other markets. We do get a retractable, 7.0-inch, full colour display for the MMI which sits on top of the dashboard. The car also gets a new three-spoke steering wheel, 'Milano' leather upholstery, and redesigned jet-exhaust themed air vents. 

In addition, you also get dual-zone air-conditioning, park assist with front and rear sensors and a reverse camera as standard. The smartphone interface for the MMI system and Bang and Olufsen sound system are however optional extras. Safety equipment includes five airbags and ABS with EBD. 

The biggest update however is the engine. The Audi A3 Cabriolet now comes powered by a 1.4-litre TFSI petrol engine that offers 150PS of power and 250Nm of torque. The engine features cylinder-on-Demand, which shuts two cylinders when the engine is not under full load. This, has improved claimed fuel efficiency, and Audi claims 19.20kmpl! The higher efficiency can also be credited to the lower output as compared to the older version, which was powered by the more potent 1.8 TSI motor that offered 180PS as compared to 150PS now. Peak torque produced is identical at 250Nm though. The transmission is the same 7-speed S-TRONIC gearbox as before. To its advantage, the A3 Cabriolet is the only convertible in its segment, and its value is further enhanced by the fact that the car features a 2+2 seating arrangement.
