  • Skoda Octavia to launch in India in April 2021.
  • Will be provided with a 190PS 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine.
  • Should come with connected car tech, a wireless phone charger, and ambient lighting.
  • Likely to be priced from Rs 19 lakh onwards (ex-showroom).

The fourth-gen Octavia will be launched in India by the end of April this year, tweeted Skoda India boss Zac Hollis. While that is still some time away, few images of the top-spec Laurin and Klement variant have already leaked online, giving us a glimpse of the midsize sedan.

The India-spec Octavia looks similar to the Euro-spec model, packing a few minor differences like the turbine-style alloy wheels. The Skoda butterfly grille sits wider and lower, giving it a more hunkered-down stance, while the quad headlamps have been replaced by conventional single-piece units. A character line flows from the front profile to the rear, connecting the headlamps and tail lamps. The split LED tail lamps and bold ‘Skoda’ badging are the highlights at the rear.

On the inside, the new Octavia looks similar to the international-spec model. The dashboard is dominated by Skoda’s new touchscreen infotainment system and digital driver’s display. The former has done away with all the knobs on the central console, making it look more minimalistic now.

Creature comforts should include connected car tech, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, powered front seats, cruise control, and a wireless phone charger. Safety should be taken care of by multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and parking sensors with a 360-degree camera.

As of now, the new-gen Octavia will only be powered by petrol. The new engine in question is the Volkswagen Group’s 2.0-litre turbo-petrol unit (with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic), developing 190PS and 320Nm of torque. A 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine could also be offered along the way to keep costs in check.

The new-gen Octavia is expected to be priced from Rs 19 lakh (ex-showroom). It will lock horns with the Hyundai Elantra, the only other midsize sedan in the market. The Octavia could also be a possible alternative to the Jeep Compass and the Hyundai Tucson.
