2015 ZigWheels Awards: Sedan of the Year Nominees

2015 didn't see too many launches in the sedan class of cars. In fact, the year saw just two, albeit two extremely capable ones. The Ford Figo Aspire and the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class are the two nominees for the 2015 Times Auto ZigWheels Awards

Ford Figo Aspire: The Ford Figo Aspire impressed us when we did the first drive, then went on to win the compact sedan shootout, and now stands as a strong contender for the 2015 Sedan of the Year title. With the Figo Aspire, Ford has managed to create a brilliant all round package. Unlike most compact sedans, this one doesn't look like an oddball, has well made interiors and comes rich in features too. Let's not forget, that all versions of the Figo Aspire come with ABS and 2 Airbags as standard equipment. Ford has also been smart in its engine options. The Amercian carmaker has brought the Figo Aspire in three engine options - 1.2-litre petrol unit, a 1.5-litre petrol automatic and a 1.5-litre diesel. Thanks to a great combination of features, drivability, handling and price, the Ford Figo Aspire will be a tough competitor in the 2015 Sedan of the Year category.

Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class: Mercedes-Benz brought in its Audi A3 rival in the form of the CLA-Class and apart from the Ford Figo Aspire it was the only sedan to be launched last year. To start with it has an extremely pleasing design, especially with that single slat front grille up front and those smart looking LED taillamps at the back. Looks aside, it comes fairly well specced too. It comes with a 2.0-litre petrol motor that pumps 183.5PS and 300Nm and a 2.2-litre diesel that churns 136PS and 300Nm. Moreover, in terms of quality and interior too Mercedes leaves little to complain about. But most importantly, the CLA- Class makes Mercedes sedans accessible to a larger audience thanks to its pricing.
