A couple of races, car reveals, as well as an Indian team making history made the headlines in motorsports over the past week

The last seven days in motorsports continued to be action packed, with the 2022 Extreme E Season Opener, as well as more 2022 F1 machinery being unveiled. It was also a week that saw Mumbai Falcons create history at the Formula Regional Asian Championship season finale. Here’s everything that went down:

Extreme E

Rosberg X Racing pretty much picked up where they left off and began their title defence in fine style by winning the season opening Desert E-Prix of the 2022 Extreme E season. The duo of Johan Kristoffersson and Mikaela Ahlin-Kottulinsky finished ahead of the Acciona Sainz pair of Carlos Sainz and Laia Sanz. The X44 duo of Sebastien Loeb and Cristina Gutierrez finished in third position.

Formula One

There were a slew of car launches this week, with the likes of Alpha Tauri, Williams, Ferrari, Alpine and Mercedes unveiling their 2022 challengers. This leaves only Alfa Romeo to unveil their cars ahead of the first preseason test at Barcelona.

Car launches aside, we could be having a new team join the F1 grid for 2024, as 1978 world champion, Mario Andretti revealed that his son, Michael Andretti has applied to the FIA for his new team, Andretti Global, to join the grid in 2024. That being said, this is still pending FIA approval.

Mumbai Falcons couldn’t have ended their second season in the  Formula Regional Asian Championship in a more perfect fashion. Thanks to another strong haul of results, including another 1-2 finish, Arthur Leclerc (brother of Charles Leclerc) managed to clinch the drivers title. In addition, Mumbai Falcons clinched the teams title, creating history as the first Indian team to win an FIA single-seater championship.

MotoGP

In the world of two wheels, Francesco Bagnaia’s long term future will be at the factory Ducati squad, as the Italian rider has extended his contract to the end of the 2024 season. Coming back to the present, the 2022 MotoGP season will kick off at Qatar on March 6.
