On top of the revisions to the SUV-coupe, the ‘Black Shadow’ adds a darker vibe to the updated X4

  • Styling updates include sportier bumpers, sharper LED headlights, a connected kidney grille, and 20-inch M alloy wheels.

  • Cabin features 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment and digital driver displays, a head-up display, panoramic sunroof, and ambient lighting.

  • Retains the 252PS 2-litre petrol, and 265PS 3-litre diesel engines. 190PS 2-litre diesel axed from the lineup.

  • Rekindles its rivalry with the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe and the Porsche Macan.

BMW India had kicked off 2022 with the launch of the facelifted X3, and now the facelifted X4 SUV-coupe has arrived in India. Interestingly, this midlife facelift has arrived via the Black Shadow Edition, at prices starting at Rs 70.50 lakh (ex-showroom India). Let’s take a look at what’s changed.

M Sport xDrive30i

M Sport xDrive30d

On the outside, the X4’s updates are quite similar to the ones on the X3, with sporty bumpers, a tweaked front kidney grille, sharper LED headlights and tail lamps, and new 20-inch alloy wheels. As the name suggests, the Dark Shadow edition adds blacked-out elements on the front grille mesh, vertical air intakes, alloy wheels, and bumper inserts. It is offered in two body shade options: Black Sapphire and M Brooklyn Grey. Red brake callipers round off the sportier styling.

Head inside, and you’re greeted to a cabin layout that’s identical to the updated X3, with the revised climate control knobs and AC vents giving it a minimalist look. The Black Shadow also adds on Leather Vernasca upholstery with black decor stitching.

Offered in a sole MSport trim, it’s fully loaded with BMW’s latest 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and digital driver’s display, a Harmon Kardon 16-speaker sound system, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, tri-zone climate control, as well as a head-up display. Safety kit includes six airbags, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.

Under the hood, while it soldiers on with the existing xDrive30i 252PS 2-litre petrol, and xDrive30d 265PS 3-litre diesel engines, the 190PS 2-litre diesel mill has been axed from the lineup. Both engines are  paired to a 8-speed gearbox and an all-wheel drivetrain. The 0-100kmph sprint can be achieved in 6.6 seconds (petrol) and 5.8 seconds (diesel) respectively.

Those looking to buy the 2022 BMW X4, might want to hurry up as only limited units of the Black Shadow edition will be available. It’ll rekindle its rivalry with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe and Porsche Macan
