In the age of boring crossovers, Mini as a brand stands out to bring some fun, quirky and unconventional cars. The latest from the British brand is the newly-launched Countryman JCW with a loud personality, some aural pleasure and a lot of fun behind the wheel. However, it’s sibling, the Countryman Electric explores the other side of the coin with a silent, emission-free powertrain and a more accessible price point. So similar, yet so different! Let’s see how they compare with each other:

Countryman Electric |

Countryman JCW |
Rs 64.90 lakh |
While both of these machines ain’t cheap, the Countryman Electric, priced at Rs 54.90 lakh (ex-showroom) offers a more accessible price point. Pair that to the low running costs of an electric powertrain and it becomes a more attractive proposition for daily commutes.
On the other hand, Mini recently launched the Countryman JCW at Rs 64.90 lakh(ex-showroom) which is a full Rs 10 lakh more expensive than its electric sibling, but it offers a lot more exclusivity and the vibrant character, which would tempt enthusiasts.

As seen above, the Countryman JCW and Countryman Electric have nearly identical dimensions. The JCW is just 2 mm longer which can be attributed to the different bumpers and the sporty rear diffuser. Width-wise both cars remain identical at 1843 mm while the JCW is slightly taller too at 1645 mm due to the larger alloy wheels. Both the cars share the same 2690 mm wheelbase for a reasonably spacious interior.

Under the hood is where both the cars differ greatly. The Countryman Electric gets a 66.45kWh battery pack, paired with a front-wheel drive motor churning out 204 PS and 250 Nm. This setup helps provide a range of 566 Km.

While the performance is adequate for a car of its size, the Countryman JCW absolutely blows it away with 100 PS of extra power and 150 Nm of extra torque. Paired with the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drivetrain, it does the same 0-100kmph run in a blistering 5.4 seconds, which is a whole 2.6 seconds faster than the Countryman Electric.

It is quite clear then, as to what car you should pick if you are looking for a thrilling and fun to drive experience. That said, the Countryman Electric should also suffice if it is refinement and lower running costs you are after and don’t want to shell out the hefty premium.
Mini’s Countryman has always been a bit of an oddball option in the compact luxury SUV segment, however, it is a competent one too. While the Countryman Electric is a stylish, more fashionable and comfortable option for daily commutes, the Countryman JCW really drives up the sporty quotient and comes across as a more serious option while retaining the quirky Mini touches. Both cars come across as great choices and although they share a name, they are as different as chalk and cheese.
