As part of Mahindra’s pledge to support women in sports and to celebrate their achievements, the carmaker gifted an all-new Thar to the winner of the “Mahindra Emerging Boxing Icon” award, Nikhat Zareen. The handover was done at the 2023 IBA Women's World Boxing Championships, which has been dominated by Indian boxers.
Neha Anand, Head, Global Brand and Marketing Communication, Automotive Division hands over the keys of the All-New Thar to Nikhat Zareen, Women’s World Boxing Champion
The domination is to such an extent that India is currently topping the medal charts amongst 63 nations with four gold medals in the bag. In doing so, Nikhat won her second world championship, and became only the second Indian woman after Mary Kom to win multiple medals at the IBA Women's World Boxing Championships.
Women's sports in general and not just boxing is popping up on the radar a lot more than before, like the Women's Premier League (WPL) and more. And to further nudge and inspire women coming up in the sport and in a bid to support them, Mahindra will launch a “Road to Gold” initiative in alliance with the Boxing Federation of India (BFI).
Through this initiative, the journey of individual boxers will be documented, showcasing their struggles, hard work and dedication. This will be part of Mahindra’s tie-up with the BFI in which the XUV300 TurboSport and Thar are the official SUVs of the event.
