Audi Unveils Brand New Q7 Globally With Butch Looks, And Cutting Edge Tech

The new generation Audi Q7 has debuted globally 10 years after its last update. Originally launched in 2005, the Q7 was a statement of luxury with a sophisticated presence. Popularly known to be loaded with tech, power and space, the Q7, for now, is the flagship Audi SUV and is expected to hit the Indian shores sometime in 2027. Let’s step into the highlights of what Audi has done to upgrade the Q7 to make it a compelling rival against the German luxury SUVs.

2026 Audi Q7: Exterior

The new Audi Q7 makes a departure from the old one with a far bolder and butch front end, which proudly houses the massive air dam and the illuminated Audi logo. Going with the recent trends of SUVs and lighting, the DRL is split from the main headlamps, with the latter housed on the upper section of the bumper. The DRL in recent Audi fashion also gets customisable designs, so you can choose what pattern of light you want it to illuminate. The tall bonnet line makes it have a larger road presence than before. The Q7 comes with what Audi calls digital Matrix LED headlights with micro-LED modules. This has features like highlighting obstacles and ice on the road, adjusting the high beam according to the opposite traffic, GPS and steering guided lighting, which guides the light on the hilly twisty roads, etc.

The side profile this time has taken a softer approach compared to the outgoing Q7. Softer lines, upright pillars and a clean design make it family-friendly and also approachable for people of different sizes. The Q7 comes with a range of 20-inch to 23-inch alloy wheels with design options according to your choice and variants. And depending on the variant, the chrome lines and darker accents can change. 

Coming to the rear, the Q7 proudly displays the new Audi family design language with the tail lamps and a connected light bar as well. Audi says these are third-generation digital OLED tail lamps with communication functions and customizable lighting signatures here as well. The overall rear profile looks taller than before, but with a good balance of a regal look and sporty feel. At the top, the Q7 houses a simple-looking spoiler with side aero blades to balance the aerodynamics. And at the bottom, the bumper proudly houses dual exhausts on either side with matte smoked chrome trim at the lower half of the bumper. 

2026 Audi Q7: Interior

Get in the new Audi Q7, and you will be greeted with the widely trending 3-screen layout on the dashboard. The driver’s display and the mid-mounted infotainment screen are curved towards the driver’s view. In contrast, the third passenger’s display comes with a privacy screen to avoid distractions for the driver. The systems come with voice functions for the most common system functions, and more complicated requests are backed by ChatGPT. The rest of the interior has a minimalist but sophisticated feel, but in the good old Audi fashion, giving it a balance of tech and minimalism. 

The new Q7 is equipped with a 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, which includes speakers in the headrests. Furthermore, the seats come with massage functions and a special vibration function to elevate the base feel of the music. The Q7 also comes with dual Qi 2.2 wireless chargers with a cooling function and magnetic support. The optional heads-up display shows dynamic arrows for the driver’s navigation and warnings for obstacles on the road.  

Coming to the rest of the cabin, for the first time, the Q7 comes with second row captain seats in the 6-seater configuration. The boot space varies from 806 litres for the 5-seater variant and 722 litres for the 7-seater variant. However, the largest capacity with all seats down is a whopping 2075 litres according to Audi. 

The piester resistance of the cabin experience in the Q7 is the brand new panoramic sunroof, which has a 9-segment electrochromic function. This means the sunroof can change from transparent to opaque with the press of a button in different segments, along with a dynamic LED mood light function. Audi says this laminated and coated panoramic glass blocks 99.5% of UV radiation into the cabin, making conventional blinds not necessary. This overall enhances the DLO (daylight-opening) and gives the cabin an airy feel. 

2026 Audi Q7: Powertrain & More Technology

The Audi Q7, for now, is launched only with one powertrain in two states of tune. A diesel V6 engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system producing 225 PS with 500 Nm of torque and a 299 PS with 630 Nm of torque mated with an 8-speed AT gearbox. This diesel engine can also run on recycled vegetable oil. The petrol versions and plug-in hybrid petrol variants are expected to launch later this year or by early 2027.

AT - Automatic Transmission

This new over 5-meter-long Q7 is based on VW Group’s PPC (Premium Platform Combustion) platform, which supports ICE engines and plug-in hybrid powertrains. Further tech in the Q7 includes powered front and rear doors, road-projected indicators, adaptive suspension and 4-wheel steering, which aids parking in cramped areas and supports high-speed cornering abilities. 

2026 Audi Q7: Expected Launch, Expected Price & Rivals

The new Q7 is expected to be launched sometime in 2027. However, the Q7 is launched in Germany for 88,000 Euros, which translates to a little less than Rs 1 Crore in India. However, we can realistically expect the new Q7 to be launched north of Rs 1.2 Crore in India, depending on the variant and options available. 

The Q7 is placed against the likes of the Mercedes GLE and the BMW X5 in India. Further down the line, we expect a new SUV from Audi called the Q9 to be the new flagship SUV to go against the Mercedes GLS and the likes.

The new generation of Audi cars carries a fresh look, modern cabin and superior tech. With this amount of equipment on offer, it could work out as a great package in the Rs 1 Crore SUV segment, going head to head against ze other Germans. It will also be interesting to see how their newest flagship, the Q9, will be placed.
