It looks like Maruti Suzuki is working on the CNG version of its subcompact SUV, the Brezza. The detailed lineup of the car’s CNG variants has been revealed online, disclosing a few interesting bits. The most eye-catching detail was the possibility of Maruti teaming the CNG motor with an automatic transmission.
As per the leaked information, the Brezza CNG is likely to come in four trims: LXI, VXI, ZXI and ZXI+. The auto ‘box, like in the petrol-only model, is limited to the top three trims, taking the total variant count to seven. The CNG powertrain is expected to be offered in all trims, but that could change once the launch is confirmed.
The Brezza CNG will likely use the same 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine found in the standard model. The same motor is offered in the Ertiga and it puts out 87PS and 122Nm in CNG mode in the MPV. While the Ertiga CNG gets only the five-speed manual, the Brezza CNG, as mentioned above, is likely to get Maruti’s new six-speed automatic.

Maruti is expected to launch the Brezza CNG soon and it could command a premium of around Rs 1 lakh over the standard petrol model priced between Rs 7.99 lakh and Rs 13.8 lakh (ex-showroom). If and when launched, it’ll be the first CNG-powered car in the hotly contested segment which consists of models like the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300 and the like.
